Lab data vs real-visitor data
Lab data comes from a Lighthouse test run right now under fixed conditions; it's useful for measuring the effect of your changes. Real-visitor data comes from the Chrome UX Report (CrUX) for the last 28 days, and it's what Google uses to assess Core Web Vitals.
What are Core Web Vitals?
Three metrics: LCP for how fast the main content appears (good up to 2.5 s), INP for how fast the page responds to interaction (good up to 200 ms) and CLS for how stable the layout is while loading (good up to 0.1).
Why does the score change between tests?
The network, server, ads and third-party scripts all affect a test, so the score moves by a few points. Compare several runs, and rely on real-visitor data when it's available.
Frequently asked questions
01Who runs the test?
Google does, through the official PageSpeed Insights API; we present and rank the result. The test puts no more load on your server than a normal visit.
02Why is there no real-visitor data?
Google doesn't have enough Chrome visits to this page or site yet, so the assessment relies on lab data alone.
03How long does a test take?
Usually 15 to 45 seconds, because Google actually loads the page and analyses everything on it.
04Do I need a score of 100?
No. What matters is that Core Web Vitals are in the good range for your real visitors. Start with the issues that save the most time.
